Not The Same Summer

Summer...just the word evokes warm (hot!) weather, lots of sunshine, swimming in an aqua pool, cookouts, playing outside, going on vacations, making new memories. I do love summer and I love our tradition of going home to Fresno for a couple of weeks to visit family and friends and taking the grandkids with me. We've made a lot of memories in the past years, by spending time together swimming, going to See's Candy, going to the zoo with friends, taking lots and lots of pictures, etc, but, unfortunately this year, we are going to miss it.

Because we won't be coming home due to very high airfares that are over twice the amount they were last year. You would think with the price of gas being over a $1 less than it was last year that airlines would have kept their prices at least the same price, but nope, they most assuredly are not. For the three of us to go it would be at least $2200(!) to fly round trip. So, home in Virginia is where we will be staying this summer.

It's going to be kind of weird for me to be at work in July as usually I pretty much take most of the month off...I can't even remember the last time I worked the whole month, except I know it's been a few years. And Sean Michael always spent the month there since he was about 7 so it should be interesting (boring?) for him this summer. We will still be getting Ky in a couple of weeks for 2 or 3 weeks so I suppose we should try to think about doing a few things with her while we have her, but in the long run it isn't going to be the same summer we are use to.

There is a lot to be said for tradition, and this is one I am going to miss and I'm sure the kids are going to miss it too. I guess there's always next year though...I hope.

Nope...not the same summer. ***sigh***
