It dawned on me that I am going to miss my favorite time of year in Virginia: Fall. I have posted fall pictures the past few years because I could barely go outside without wanting to take pictures of the beautiful trees, but I am pretty sure I am not going to have that same urge here. It's been so warm that I can't even imagine the trees changing colors, especially since the colors have to do with the amount of rain you get, and let's face it, California hasn't had enough to do anything with.
The colors of fall in Virginia are usually always best about the last 2 weeks of October so I guess I will just ask Sean Michael to take some pictures of the trees for me so I can at least see them and feel a little bit of fall.
But it does makes me kind of sad to miss it, along with the chill in the air that signals it is time to make chili and soups and stews and short ribs with mashed potatoes. Those kinds of things just taste best (to me anyway) in the fall and winter and while I will probably make a few fall dishes while I am, it isn't going to be quite the same as it when its 50 degrees outside with a gray sky and brisk wind.
I remember when I was a kid here though and fall was fall and it could be pretty chilly, especially at night. I have a couple of pictures from the fair (taken in a photobooth) and I am wearing a coat, and I can think back to how cold it was. Yet a couple of years later, in another photobooth picture, I'm wearing a tshirt and it wasn't cold at all. Go figure. But back then the weather was definitely different than what it is now.
Anyway, I am going to miss fall and all the colors and gloriousness of it that God made.
There is always next year.
